Bjork

Björk will head to Plymouth Pavilions on Tuesday 22 April 2008 as part of only 7 dates in the UK.

Coming to the UK in April 2008, the ‘Volta Tour' has seen Björk take her thrilling new set across the world in a series of festival performances and headline shows to considerable acclaim.

“Björk delivers a performance as visually spectacular as it is musically innovative. Fifteen years into her solo career Björk remains the least compromising and most fantastical pop superstar talent.”  The Guardian 5/5 live review 29th August 2007.

Björk's band on the Volta Tour includes Mark Bell (LFO) on computers and keyboards and Damian Taylor on keyboards and programming. Drums & percussion come from Chris Corsano (Sonic Youth etc) and Björk's fantastic all female Icelandic 10 piece brass section is in full effect.

The tour is preceded by the release of the brand new single ‘Declare Independence' on 1 January 2008. A muscular and militant rallying cry, ‘Declare Independence' sees Björk at her most passionate and inventive and comes with an electrified backbeat that continues where ‘Earth Intruders' left off. Bristling with intense energy this contemporary protest song sees Björk firmly on the march.

Taken from her new album ‘Volta', ‘Declare Independence' is written and produced by Björk, along with longtime collaborator Mark Bell. The track comes complete with an incredible video courtesy of celebrated Oscar winning French director Michel Gondry (‘Sunshine of the Spotless Mind') with whom Björk has worked on acclaimed videos including Army of Me and Hyperballad.

Press & Promotions Officer at Plymouth Pavilions, Robert Maltby said: “We've had a cracking year with a number of major high profile artists heading to the venue and this is hopefully the first of many more to be announced for 2008. Whether you like Björks music or not, you cannot dispute just how big this gig is for the venue and city as a whole, something which we should be shouting about to the rest of the UK. Björk is music royalty, probably one of the most respected female artists in the last 20 years and yet another global superstar rockin' the Pavilions stage”.
