Chart topping Indie Pop act Scouting For Girls announce another headlining tour, visiting Plymouth Pavilions on Sunday 2 November 2008.
It is little over a year since Scouting For Girls singed their first recording contract with Epic UK and already the West-London trio of Roy Stride, Greg Churchouse and Peter Ellard have sold enough copies of their self titled debut album to reach number 1 and achieve platinum status.
The first taster to their wider audience was the release of the ‘It's Not About You' EP in June 2007. It became the first limited edition EP to chart in UK history.
|
|
| |
The following September Scouting For Girls released their first single, ‘She's So Lovely' which peaked at number 7, and spent an amazing six weeks in the UK Top 10. The foundations were set, the radio stations tuned in and Britain was (literally) waking up to Scouting For Girls as the new British indie-pop sensations.
Band member Roy said: “To be honest, we're all still pinching ourselves. It has been a real whirlwind already, but we were always going to do this.”
Undoubtedly Roy's ear for a buoyant melody and inescapable chorus hook has offered them the lion share of success, but his unique take on life which is reflected in the lyrics is forever captivating.
The warmth, wit and healthy dose of bittersweet nostalgia makes an individual stand for the young at heart. Using unforgettable melodies and weaving lyricism, they chronicle lost youth and broken hearts.
With highly effervescent performances of their light hearted, joyful pop, Scouting For Girls will definitely be the ones to watch this November.
Press & Promotions Officer at Plymouth Pavilions, Robert Maltby said: “Following a sell out gig recently in Exeter, it is great to finally get the guys down to Plymouth for one of the biggest gigs they will play in the South West. Scouting For Girls and The Hoosiers are probably the hottest pop bands of the year and we are so proud to have bagged them both for our Autumn season!” |

- Tickets cost: £8

|
Remembrance 2008 will take place at Plymouth Pavilions on Friday 7 November 2008, this year commemorating the 90th Anniversary of the cease fire on 11th day of 11th month 1918.
With a total disregard for life, regardless of country, this years Festival will commemorate the multitude of service personnel who lost their lives during both World Wars and those who lost their lives during active service including non combatants of the Merchant Fleet in Palestine, Malaya, Korea, Kenya, Cyprus, Suez, Aden, Brunei, Borneo, British Honduras, Belize, Northern Ireland, Falklands, the Gulf, Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam.
We in Plymouth have, or know of, servicemen and women who served with units in Devon & Cornwall and have been killed or wounded in active service in either in Afghanistan or Iraq recently.
|
|
| |
We do not forget the people of Plymouth who perished in the blitz, nor do we forget their involvement, their suffering and the part they played in both World Wars. Even today their suffering goes on as their sons and daughters, brothers and sisters serve with British Force's committed to peace around the world, particularly in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines will be joined on stage by the Torpoint Ladies Choir and the Devon & Cornwall Constabulary Male Voice Choir.
Remembrance 2008 will be narrated by Radio Devon's very own John Coats and the service will be conducted by Rev Nick McKinnel of St Andrews Church. |

Dylan Moran |
- Thursday 20th November
- 8pm
- Tickets cost: £19
|
|
Dylan Moran's stand up shows have sold out across the world and now he makes his debut at Plymouth Pavilions on Thursday 20 November 2008.
From New York and LA through Europe and onto Australasia ‘Monster I', ‘Monster II' and ‘Like Totally' have cemented this unkempt wordsmith's reputation as one of the foremost comics of his generation. Likened to Dave Allen and labelled ‘The Oscar Wilde of Comedy' Dylan is unpredictable, bizarre, elegiac, often cruel but above all painfully funny. Dylan sees through the joys and disappointments of human existence with the sensibility and intense perception of a man teetering on the edge. He chews life up and spits it out stamping it into the pavement as he goes.
‘He's one of a kind”. The Daily Telegraph
Dylan Moran first came to public attention when he won Channel 4's ‘So You Think You're Funny', followed 3 years later by the Perrier Award. Since those early stand-up beginnings Dylan has had huge success as both a writer and a performer. The Simon Nye comedy ‘How Do You Want Me' established him as a serious acting talent. Three series of the Channel 4's sitcom ‘Black Books' followed, winning him a BAFTA and a Bronze Rose of Montreux, before Dylan turned his back on the huge financial incentives for a further series and lay grumpy Bernard and witless assistant Mani to rest.
Dylan's film career has included the smash hit ‘Rom-Com-Zom', ‘Shaun of the Dead' alongside Simon Pegg, ‘The Actors' opposite Michael Caine and Michael Gambon; ‘Notting Hill' and Michael Winterbottom's ‘A Cock & Bull Story'. Last year Dylan teamed-up with Pegg once again to star in David Schwimmer's directorial debut ‘Run Fat Boy Run'. Dylan has recently completed filming ‘A Film with Me in it' due for release later in the year.
‘About as perfect an evening as I can recall'. The Times
Dylan Moran makes you laugh so hard you have to put your head between your knees and gasp for air". The Observer

Patrick McGuinness's first outing on the road to tellydom was in a series of 6 one off episodes in C4's ‘The Comedy Lab'. He appeared as Terry, a work-shy employee in Peter Kay's ‘The Services'. Soon after this he got the part that he made his own as Paddy the doorman in ‘That Peter Kay Thing'. He appeared in the episode entitled "The Club" which led to the massive spin off series ‘Phoenix Nights'. Not taking acting, writing or comedy too seriously Paddy returned to his job as a fitness instructor after the first series of ‘Phoenix Nights'. It was only when his life-long friend Peter Kay persuaded him to leave his full time job and give showbiz a go, that Paddy left the fitness industry behind and started work on ‘Phoenix Nights' series 2.
Patrick then went on to co-write with Peter Kay, the eagerly anticipated spin off to Phoenix Nights: ‘Max and Paddy's The Road To Nowhere'. This follows the adventures of the two Phoenix doormen (Max and Paddy) and what they get up to on their travels around the country. ‘Max and Paddy's Power of Two' which featured the 2 characters performing in their very own work out video was subsequently released on DVD and became the fastest selling fitness video ever!
Paddy's cap has numerous feathers and in 2006 he proved this by hosting and writing ‘Inside Wayne Rooney' for Sky One. He also presented the weekly Friday night show ‘Unanimous: The Fallout' with Olivia Lee for C4, guest presented the Paul O'Grady Show and also found time to write a comedy short for E4, ‘The Unknown Stuntman'.
In 2007, Paddy presented ‘Raiders of the Lost Archive' on ITV1; a show in which he and his guests (including Bruce Forsyth, Chris Tarrant, Michael Parkinson and Ronnie Corbett) discovered TV shows they had appeared in years ago, which they had previously thought were lost. As well as appearing on numerous comedy shows including ‘Eight Out of Ten Cats', ‘Law of the playground'etc, Paddy's new football DVD, ‘Paddy McGuinness: All-Star Balls Ups!' entered the sporting DVD chart at No 1.
In 2008 Paddy will be appearing in the new Leigh Francis comedy for ITV ‘Keith Lemons Gap Year' and he is also the face of Greggs new television campaign.

Pendulum |
- Sunday 30th November
- 7:30pm
- Tickets cost: £17.50
|
|
Pendulum formed in their home-town of Perth (Western Australia) in 2002, when producers Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen teamed up with acclaimed local DJ Paul 'Elhornet' Harding. While their individual formative roots ranged from producing drum & bass, breakbeat and hardcore, to playing in metal and punk bands, their comparable talents proved an unstoppable force when they managed to single-handedly conquer the world of drum & bass in their first 12 months together.
After selling more that 225,000 units of their debut artist album "Hold Your Colour", remixing for such respected artists as The Prodigy, being play-listed and featuring regularly on BBC Radio 1, all whilst continuing to tour the world over as DJs...Pendulum decided that it was finally time to take things to the next level - performing live.
The last 12 months have seen Pendulum retreat to the depths of the underground to work on their second album, and to hone and perfect their sound for the live arena.
