| The Plym Valley Railway |
| Marsh Mills Station, Coypool Road, Plympton, Plymouth, PL7 4NW. |
The railway centre and buffet at Marsh Mills Station is open most Sundays throughout the year from 11.00.
The aim of the Plym Valley Railway is to re-build a one and a half mile section of the ex-Great Western branch line from Marsh Mills to Plym Bridge. The line used to run from Tavistock Junction, just outside of Plymouth, to Launceston.
In 2001, after many years of hard work we began operating passenger trains on a section of the line from our Station at Marsh Mills to World's End, a distance of approx. 700 yards (650m). This was extended in May 2008 to Lee Moor Crossing, nearly ¾ mile (1,200m), after repairs had been carried out on our three bridges to allow them to carry passenger trains.
We are also in the process of building a level crossing to take the line across the cycle path at Lee Moor Crossing and then relay the line back to Plym Bridge. Restoration and maintenance work is continuing on our locomotives and rolling stock, with three Mk 2 coaches added to the fleet in March 2007.
New and enthusiastic volunteers are needed in all departments, including motive power, permanent way, carriage and wagon, building and works, fund raising and retail outlets to achieve our aim of taking passengers back to Plym Bridge.
