What's on at the Theatre Royal and Drum Theatre - Plymouth

The Theatre Royal Plymouth is the largest and best attended regional producing theatre in the UK and the leading promoter of theatre in the South West. There are two distinctive performance spaces, the Theatre Royal and the Drum Theatre as well as TR2, the award-winning theatre production and education centre.

The Theatre Royal seats 1320, but has a unique ability to compress the auditorium, creating a more intimate performance space of 791. The range of work presented and produced is incredibly extensive including major touring drama and musical productions as well as welcoming leading opera and dance companies to the South West.

The Drum Theatre is an exceptional venue in the South West that has built a national reputation for the quality of its programme and its innovative, cutting-edge work in the fields of new writing and physical theatre. This was acknowledged in 2007 when the Drum Theatre was awarded the Peter Brook Empty Space Award.

Theatre Royal ( Plymouth ) Ltd announces the appointment of Sir Michael Lickiss as the new Chairman of the Theatre Royal Plymouth and Plymouth Pavilions.

Sir Michael Lickiss is a chartered accountant and former Senior Partner of Grant Thornton (1991-1994). After moving to the South West, Sir Michael was appointed the first Chairman of the South West of England Regional Development Agency (1998-2002) and in 2003, was appointed Chairman of the British Tourist Authority (visit Britain ), a position he held for two years. Sir Michael is currently President of the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society and an Advisor for University College Falmouth.

Sir Michael will be taking over the role from Peter Vosper, who for the last year has been acting Chairman for Theatre Royal ( Plymouth ) Ltd. Peter Vosper will remain on the Board for the company.

I am confident the leadership of the Board, in its role of protecting and furthering the development of the Theatre Royal and Plymouth Pavilions, will be in very good hands.”
